Sri Chinmaya Saraswati Temple will celebrate “Vasanta Panchami” the birthday of Goddess Saraswati on Sunday January 01/21/2018. As Diwali is for Lakshmi and Navaratri is for Durga, Vasant Panchami is for Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge and arts.
This festival is celebrated every year on the 5th day or ‘Panchami’ of the month of Magha in all Saraswati temples such as Saraswati temple in Basara and Sri Sharada Peetham in Sringeri.
On this day Goddess Saraswati is worshiped as the Goddess of Learning, the deity of Gayatri, the fountain of fine arts and science, and the symbol of supreme vedantic knowledge. It is the most auspicious day for Akshara Abhyasam – beginning of education.
